Welcome to the Olea Pain Clinic

Dr Sarah Akol Aturia

Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthetics

Dr Sarah Aturia is a widely experienced Pain Consultant whose NHS and private practice encompass all aspects of acute, chronic and cancer pain with a special interest in Low Back, Neck, Musculoskeletal, Whiplash Injuries, Neuropathic, Chronic Post-Surgical and Pelvic Pain and Fibromyalgia.

Dr Aturia’s higher specialist training was in the Oxford School of Anaesthesia where she obtained her FRCA and FFPMRCA. She successfully completed a one-year Pain Fellowship at The Royal Brisbane Hospital, Queensland, Australia. She has led and collaborated with clinicians in the development of numerous services that have benefited her patients and wider community in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas.

Dr Aturia’s focus is on restoration of long-term physical, functional and emotional health by drawing up a comprehensive pain management plan, and delivering a high-quality service. She performs a wide range of advanced pain interventions and techniques which serve a diagnostic and therapeutic purpose. Performed with fluoroscopy and ultrasound guidance in a theatre environment, it provides a window of pain relief enabling one to start or resume and maintain physiotherapy, an exercise regime, activity, or sport.

Dr Aturia leads a pain team supported by evidence base to reinforce patient’s rehabilitation-physiotherapy. She recognises that persistent pain presents a considerable challenge to patients and strongly believes that early intervention is vital to prevent progression to a chronic state. The treatment plan also entails medication advice and rationalisation.

Dr Aturia holds The Cardiff University Bond Solon (CUBS) Expert Witness Civil Certificate (2023). She provides reports and offers an individualised and tailored plan for medico-legal patients requiring pain management.

Dr Aturia is a lecturer for the Essential Pain Management (EPM) programme delivered to undergraduates at the University of Buckingham Medical School and doctors in training. EPM is an initiative of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, designed to improve education on pain assessment and management.
